MAMUNA SALIRA? THE MUSICAL SET FOR LIVE STAGE

YDC Theatre is set to stage a provoking production about masculine narrative in relation to mental health. The production is based on character adaptation of Audio Musical Theatre Mini-series from the title, Mamuna Salira? The production written and Directed by Award-Winning Playwright Fumbani Innot Phiri Jr. and Award-Winning Director Bright Phumayo Chayachaya respectively will be stage at Jacaranda Cultural Centre – Meson De La France under the banner of Theatre in Mandala and will the open production of this year’s session.

“Mamuna Salira?” explores the mental health of young men affected by traditional cultural norms. The story set and features three characters, Akim, Moze, and Likasa, Akim is a 17year-old boy who was defiled by a 30-year-old woman, and the woman is now pregnant. Akim turns to drugs as a result of the trauma. Moze is a 28-year-old man who is mentally distressed after his wife abused him. Likasa is a 30-year-old teacher who has been wrongly accused of having sex with students for grades. The story’s exploration of the challenges that young men face in a society that often expects them to be strong and unemotional. It is a poignant and thought-provoking exploration of the mental health of young men. It highlights the struggles that young men face in a society that often expects them to be strong and unemotional. The play delivered in poetic and musical format, which adds to the emotional impact of the story which provides a peaceful and contemplative backdrop for the characters’ struggles.
