CALL FOR LOCAL PRODUCTIONS FOR UDOLO WANGA THEATRE FESTIVAL AND CONFERENCE 2026
Youth Developers Collaboration (YDC) Theatre is pleased to announce a Call for Local Theatre Productions to be part of the Udolo Wanga Theatre Festival and Conference 2026, taking place from 21 to 25 May 2026 in Blantyre.
The Udolo Wanga Theatre Festival and Conference is YDC Theatre’s flagship platform dedicated to theatre for advocacy, youth empowerment, and social transformation. Rooted in community-based and applied theatre practices, the festival brings together theatre makers, educators, activists, researchers, and audiences to engage with pressing social issues through performance, dialogue, and exchange.
Over the years, Udolo Wanga has created space for bold local narratives, amplifying voices of young people and communities while addressing themes such as SRHR, gender equality, mental health, substance use prevention, climate justice, governance, and social inclusion. The 2026 edition will continue to strengthen Malawi’s theatre ecosystem by showcasing innovative local productions alongside conversations that connect artistic practice to policy, education, and community action.
Call for Local Productions
YDC Theatre invites Malawi-based theatre companies, collectives, independent theatre makers, and community theatre groups to submit productions for consideration in the 2026 festival program. Selected productions will be presented as part of the festival’s curated performances and will engage diverse audiences, including young people, practitioners, and stakeholders from the arts and development sectors.
